Issued: 0530hrs Friday 12th January 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Unsettled weather continues to dominate across S Europe, drier and colder across more northern areas

Friday
Into Friday and a large area of high pressure will continue to dominate across much of Scandinavia, including Norway, Sweden and Finland bringing fine weather here but cold, if not very cold with some very low minimum temperatures. These mainly dry conditions extend southwards into more central areas of Europe, with fine and cold weather expected across parts of Germany and into France as well, but some snow flurries are possible across Poland and surrounding countries. Unsettled weather is expected to continue through the Med though, especially around Italy where heavy rain and showers are expected, perhaps with some thundery weather through central areas of the Med as well.

Saturday
On Saturday and high pressure continues to dominate across many central, eastern and northern areas of Europe bringing plenty of fine, sunny winter weather but also very cold here as well with some very low minimum temperatures still expected, especially across parts of Finland, down into Germany, Poland and also across many eastern areas of Europe in general. Low pressure is set to continue to dominate through much of the Med bringing rain and showers to Italy and also into more eastern areas of the Med, with rain across parts of Greece and surrounding countries. Some fine weather is expected across Iberia though, especially Spain, but with a weather front bringing some showery conditions, and cooler weather, into Portugal through the course of the day.
